Bangladesh is one of the world’s most densely populated countries and also one of the most impoverished, with almost half of the population living on less than $1 (US) per day. It is a low-lying country which has seen severe flooding in recent years and is also vulnerable to cyclones and monsoons which can cause extensive damage. Natural disasters such as these combined with high population density create a high risk factor for the spread of infectious disease.

The main focus of LEPRA Health in Action’s operations in Bangladesh is to support and strengthen the government health system to reduce the burden of leprosy, lymphatic filariasis (LF) and tuberculosis affecting the poorest people in the country. Currently LEPRA works in the following districts: Sirajganj, Pabna, Natore and Bogra.
