Guatemala has been moving forward since gaining stability and successful democracy in 1996, which saw the end of its long-running civil war. However it still has some of the highest rates of illiteracy, infant mortality and malnutrition in Central America.
Malaria in Guatemala
The municipality of Ixcan in Guatemala is one of the regions in the country where malaria is most endemic. LEPRA strengthens the national prevention and control methods to reduce the numbers of people affected by malaria. Its main focus is on vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and children.
