Dr Paritosh

I am a doctor, and practis in Paikosa, Bangladesh. I came into contact with TB treatment after patients came to me with coughing and fever. In the past I used to find it hard to diagnose TB accurately, because we had little information about it.
I was asked to attend LEPRA Health in Action’s training programme -- an orientation day for all village doctors. It taught me a lot. I took up the responsibility to become a provider of directly observed treatment (DOTS) as I felt TB is a dangerous disease that ought to be eliminated.
Some of my patients have already been successfully cured. The moment they come in with these symptoms I tell them to go to the health complex for a free microscopy test so that proper treatment can start, if they really do have TB. In the past I would have just sent them home with antibiotics or cough syrup.
I am proud of what LEPRA has done in this community, and proud to be a part of that effort. When my patients are fully cured I am deeply satisfied because I have helped in some way. I feel there is much more information and awareness about TB in my area, since LEPRA started working here.
Abdul Jalil is one of Dr Paritosh’s patients who have been undergoing medication provided by him for the last three months. According to Abdul, “I suffered for a few months before they diagnosed me. I went to Paritosh for a checkup, and he was alert enough to refer me to the health complex, where I found out I had TB. I am thankful Paritosh helps me every day with my medicine”.
With LEPRA’s training of healthcare workers and volunteers, doctors learn to better diagnose people affected by disease. With your help patients like Abdul Jalil are cured of TB.
