The 30th annual LEPRA Edinburgh to St Andrews Cycle Ride ride left Inverleith Park, in the centre of Edinburgh, on Satuday 19th June bathed in glorious sunshine.

Like to take part in the Edinburgh to St Andrews Cycle Ride June 2011?  Twitter users can also contact us on @LEPRA_HinA.

Although the weather was bright and sunny fortunately the temperature was not too hot for the riders. In total 1,200 cyclists took part in the ride with ages ranging from 10 upwards -- an amazing number when you consider that the event first took place in 1994 with just 35 riders!  The Optos Team, pictured here our biggest corporate team, grows year-on-year.

The Ice Cream van on Cleish Hill sold ices, Kinross Ladies Circle provided sustaining and enjoyable lunches, the ladies of Freuchie Parish Church served the now famous LEPRA Ride Afternoon Teas and Tam and Sue Irving handed out squash and bananas to any cyclist who cared to stop.

All the cyclists arrived safely in St Andrews by 8.00pm with over 400 taking advantage of transport provided by LEPRA for the journey back to Edinburgh. A great day was had by all -- thanks to all who supported LEPRA and the event along the way.

SPONSORSHIP BANKED UPDATE  -- 26th July 2010. We have now passed the £30,000 mark and lots more money is still to come in. We will keep updating you on the total raised here regularly so remember to check back soon. Our aim is to exceed last years total of £50,000 raised for LEPRA Health in Action.

I much enjoyed reading about the ride this year and have made a note of the date for next year’s challenge. I hope the target of £50,000 is reached. Will keep up to date with your reports. It is a great event and a wonderful way to support LEPRA. A few aches and pains after those miles and hills, are nothing to what those with leprosy suffer. Well done to the organisers who work so hard to make the challenge possible. mh-w

Hi – I managed to leave my rain jacket hanging over a post by the bandstand at St Andrews on Saturday afternoon. It is a grey Berghaus. If any one handed it in to the LEPRA stand, could you please let me know. Great ride, first time I have done it in a long while!

Many thanks – David Shields
