Lymphatic filariasis drug distribution in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has the largest human concentration in the world. Carrying out health campaigns with such large numbers of people can be a real challenge. LEPRA Health in Action works with the national government to organise annual campaigns to support the mass distribution of drugs to prevent the spread of lymphatic filariasis within the population. A single dose can protect a person for one year.

These activities were expanded to nine new districts in 2008-9. Popular theatre, dance and drumming are used to make people aware of the signs and symptoms of disease and where they can go to access treatment. The work is undertaken as part of the ongoing programme in Bangladesh to minimise the public health problem of this and other diseases in the northern districts of the country.

Please donate now to support this work. We rely on the help of people like you to make sure we can continue with our important programmes here and around the world.
