One of the main characteristics of leprosy is that is causes insensitivity in hands and feet. This means that while walking, a person with leprosy has no sensation when treading on glass, sharp stones or thorns. This is why, throughout its leprosy projects LEPRA provides made to measure protective sandals made from soft rubber to people affected by leprosy to prevent injuries and ulcers which could later result in serious infection.
